Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons coach, Justin Madugu, had admitted he would love to have more international friendly matches for his side before the African Women’s Cup of Nations early next month but conceded that it might not be possible.
Sports247 reports that, heading into the July 5th kick-off for this year’s AWCON in Morocco, the Falcons played Cameroon last week in Abeokuta and they are scheduled to face Portugal in Lisbon on June 23rd, but Madugu feels two games are not enough.
However, while positing the need for more friendly matches to help him mould a cup-winning squad, Madugu conceded that he would just have to make do with what he gets from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and still ensure that he comes out with a good squad.
The soft-spoken tactician stated, “We will try as much as possible to maximise these opportunities and ensure that we do our best in order to get the girls very prepared before the AWCON.
“We would have loved to play more games, through which more opportunities would have been given to the players, but then, here we are.”
Madugu concluded by admitting he will have to work within the confines of what is given him by the NFF, while also acknowledging that the onus is on him to build a formidable squad that would bring glory to Nigeria, regardless of the situation in which he finds himself.
“We can’t continue to look back, and we can not be making excuses. We must keep on working so that we can work together to build a good team that will make Nigerians very happy,” Madugu submitted.
