Diaz Opts Against Saudi Move, Barcelona Bid Rejected

Luis Diaz has reportedly decided on a potential move to Saudi Arabia after Liverpool rejected an approach for the Colombian by Barcelona earlier in the transfer window

Luis Diaz has reportedly made his decision regarding a potential move to Saudi Arabia following earlier interest from Spanish giants Barcelona.

The Colombian winger, who scored 17 goals in all competitions last season under new head coach Arne Slot, was one of Liverpool’s standout performers. While Diaz typically thrives on the left wing, he also impressed while playing as a number nine, showcasing his versatility and growing importance to the squad.

Barcelona had explored the possibility of signing Diaz to reinforce their attack and approached Liverpool earlier this week. However the Reds have made it clear that Diaz is not for sale.

More recently, clubs in the Saudi Pro League have turned their attention to the 28-year-old, hoping to tempt him with big-money offers as part of their ongoing campaign to attract top European talent.

But Diaz has reportedly ruled out a switch to the Middle East as well, preferring to remain in Europe and continue competing at the highest level.

Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr have reportedly identified Diaz as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose future with the team remains uncertain.

According to reports, club officials have already requested central funding in preparation for a formal bid, with Diaz’s valuation expected to exceed $96 million.

Diaz is reportedly “willing to do everything he can” to make his dream move to Barcelona a reality, and he addressed his future this week while on international duty.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool,” Diaz, 28, is quoted as saying during a press conference while away with Colombia, who drew 0-0 with Peru ahead of facing Argentina next week. “They’ve treated me well since the first day.

“We’re talking with other clubs. It’s the transfer window, it’s normal. If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the two years I have left, I’ll be happy. It’s up to them.”

Liverpool have reportedly made efforts to resolve the winger’s contract situation, but talks have seen little progress.

Rather than cash in this summer, the club is believed to be prepared to retain him for the next two seasons and potentially let him leave on a free transfer after the 2026–27 campaign.

Meanwhile, Barcelona sporting director Deco was asked by the BBC earlier this week about interest in both Diaz and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, as both players continue to be linked with moves to the Camp Nou.

“They are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won’t speak because it’s not fair,” Deco said. “But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don’t need to bring many players.”
