Report: Anderlecht Not Pursuing Nwaiwu

Belgian club Anderlecht are yet to contact Austrian Cup winner AC Wolfsberger over the possibility of signing Nigeria defender Chibuike Nwaiwu this summer.

Nwaiwu has enjoyed a fine start to life in Europe after joining Austrian club Wolfsberger AC last September. The 21-year-old Nigerian defender has quickly become an important player for his side. He featured in 29 games, contributing four goals and one assist.

Nwaiwu played an important role in Wolfsberger’s Austrian Cup win last season, the club’s first ever.

As expected, following the Nigerian’s fine performance last season, there would be speculations about his future.

Belgian club Anderlecht have been linked with Nwaiwu in recent weeks. And recently, there were talks that the former Belgian champions had pulled out of the race to get the young defender.

But according to Africa Foot, Anderlecht have not even contacted Wolfsberger over the possibility of signing Nwaiwu yet. Hence, something could still happen later.

Nwaiwu is valued at €3 million by Transfermarkt, and that is a figure that Anderlecht can afford, especially if they believe in the Nigerian’s abilities.

However, the Belgian club might have to move fast. If not, they could lose Nwaiwu to another club in the summer, as other clubs are monitoring will be monitoring the situation.
