Four top-flight Nigerian clubs have officially signed up for the 2025 edition of the Eko International Cup, a prestigious pre-season tournament set to light up Lagos from July 6 to 16.
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will be represented by Enyimba FC, Remo Stars, Shooting Stars, and the newly promoted sensation, Ikorodu City FC. Each brings a unique storyline to the competition, promising a thrilling festival of football in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
Enyimba, Nigeria’s most decorated club, will look to flex their continental pedigree.
The Aba giants boast two CAF Champions League titles, nine domestic league crowns, and four Federation Cup wins — most recently lifting the NPFL trophy in the 2022–23 season.
Remo Stars, meanwhile, arrive as the reigning champions of the NPFL.
Their historic 2025 triumph is their first-ever league title and made them the first privately-owned club to clinch the title in over two decades.
Nigerian champions Remo Stars join other NPFL, Ghana, and Turkey clubs for the 2025 Eko Cup
Historic powerhouses Shooting Stars, five-time Nigerian champions and Africa’s first continental trophy winners via their 1976 Cup Winners’ Cup success, bring tradition and pedigree to the fold.
Ikorodu City FC, only just completing their debut top-flight season, stunned many with their fearless displays. They finished fourth — just shy of the continental places — and ended the campaign as the league’s highest-scoring team with 60 goals. Dubbed the “Oga Boys”, the Lagos-based side will be hoping to continue their fairy tale run on home turf.
The 2025 Eko International Cup will not just feature local heavyweights. Six other teams from across Africa and Europe have confirmed participation, adding international flair to the ten-team competition.
From Africa, South Africa’s SuperSport United, Benin’s Dadje FC, and Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have all been confirmed.
Kotoko’s inclusion comes after rivals Hearts of Oak failed to respond in time to their invitation, allowing the Kumasi-based side to step in, as per Africa Top Sports.
Europe’s representation comes from Turkish top-flight outfit Antalyaspor, completing an exciting and diverse lineup.
All matches will be broadcast live on DStv, ensuring fans across the continent won’t miss a moment of the action. The tournament is expected to serve as an ideal pre-season platform for testing tactics, evaluating squads, and setting the tone for the 2025/26 campaign.
