Awoniyi Wins PFA Community Champion Award
Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been named the PFA Community Champion at Nottingham for the 2024/25 season.
Awoniyi is coming off a torrid campaign at Nottingham Forest. He had to play second fiddle to Chris Wood for the entire campaign and had to deal multiple injuries.
The former Union Berlin man only managed just one goal in 26 appearances for the Tricky Trees. However, amid all the challenges, Awoniyi still did some good.
In March, Awoniyi treated the Nottingham community to a meal. The meal served as Iftar for the Muslims and a meal break for the Christians in the area, who were in the lent period as well.
Awoniyi also showed appreciation to Nottingham Forest fans consistently, applauding them after games or sharing posts on social media.
The Super Eagles star has now been awarded for his activities off the pitch. This is as Nottingham Forest, on Tuesday, announced that him as the PFA Community Champion for the season.
“Taiwo Awoniyi has been named our PFA Community Champion for the 2024/25 season in recognition of his outstanding dedication to supporting local communities throughout the year,” the club wrote on X.
Has Taiwo Awoniyi recovered from his life threatening injury?
Last week, news broke that Taiwo Awoniyi was in the hospital for a surgery after it was discovered that he ruptured his intestine after an incident in Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City two weeks ago.
Nonetheless, the 27-year-old striker is back on his feet. He even attended the Tricky Trees’ last Premier League game of the season against Chelsea.
He will return for pre-season action at Nottingham Forest if he remains at the club.
