Villa Targets Growth With Birmingham Store

Aston Villa have opened a new 10,000 square-foot retail space in Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre, marking a significant commercial milestone for the club as they look to capitalise on recent on-pitch success with stronger off-pitch positioning.

The two-storey store represents the club’s most prominent physical retail investment to date and aligns with a wider strategy to elevate the Villa brand both domestically and internationally. It coincides with the club’s push to return to the UEFA Champions League for the second straight season after a hiatus from the top of European football stretching over four decades.

More than just a merchandise outlet, the Bullring store features a customisation studio dubbed “Aston Works”, a museum-style heritage display, and branded immersive spaces.

The store is also designed to increase visibility beyond Villa Park, placing the club alongside some of the UK’s biggest retail brands in a high-footfall, central commercial hub in the nation’s second city.

Villa partnered with adidas in a multi-year technical kit deal which began at the start of 2024-25, and the new outlet serves as the launchpad for their co-branded away kit for the coming season.

While Premier League clubs have long embraced global e-commerce, bricks-and-mortar retail remains a key asset in fan engagement and brand visibility. Villa’s investment comes as the club positions itself for long-term growth under owners NSWE, who have focused heavily on infrastructure upgrades, digital presence, and strategic partnerships.

“Today’s opening marks a major milestone in our retail journey and broader growth strategy,” David Asquith, Vice President of Retail at Aston Villa, said. “We’ve worked hard to create a space that is immersive and aspirational, going far beyond traditional retail to proudly reflect the culture and history of Aston Villa.

“This store brings Aston Villa into the heart of Birmingham city centre in a bold and exciting way. It underlines our commitment to innovation, commercial excellence, and delivering memorable experiences for our fans. We’re thrilled and can’t wait to welcome more supporters to the Bullring store over the coming months and years to come.”

Paul O’Brien, Director of Leasing & Commercialisation at Hammerson, commented: “The opening of Aston Villa’s store is an important milestone and an exciting addition for Bullring, acting as a prime example of Hammerson’s dedication to quality brands and experiences at our best-in-class spaces. This flagship opening demonstrates our successful strategy of creating the right spaces for local and global brands alike, helping them reach a vast catchment while further enhancing Bullring’s position as one of the UK’s leading prime retail and leisure destinations.”
