Awoniyi Recovery: Governor AbdulRazaq Leads Prayers
As the football world unites in support, heartfelt prayers continue to pour in for Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who is currently recovering in an induced coma following a serious abdominal injury sustained during a Premier League clash with Leicester City on May 11, 2025.
Among the most heartfelt tributes came from his home state, where Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, released a powerful statement of solidarity:
“Awoniyi is more than just a footballer — he is a proud son of Kwara State who continues to give back generously to the community that raised him.
His unwavering connection to home is inspiring, and we look forward to seeing him return to the pitch stronger than ever.
Get well soon, dear brother and valued citizen. Kwara stands with you.”
The 27-year-old striker, known for his strength and work ethic, suffered the injury after a collision with the post while chasing a cross.
Emergency surgery was performed shortly after, but complications during the procedure led medical staff to place him in a medically induced coma to stabilize his condition.
Nottingham Forest officials have confirmed that Awoniyi is “recovering well” and is under close medical supervision.
A beloved figure both in Nigeria and abroad, Awoniyi has always worn his roots with pride. Born and raised in Ilorin, Kwara State, he has consistently supported youth initiatives, football development programs, and charitable causes back home — making him a symbol of hope and humility for many.
From Ilorin to London, from the Premier League to the streets of Kwara, the message remains the same: Taiwo Awoniyi is not alone.
He is Kwara’s pride, and Nigeria’s fighter — and the world is praying for his full and speedy recovery.
