The Brazilian Beach Soccer team earned a record-setting seventh World Cup title in the Seychelles on Sunday, securing the crown with a 4-3 win over Belarus at the Paradise Arena in Victoria.
The South American entity defended the World Cup crown they won in 2024 in a thrilling finale – Rodrigo notching a brace in addition to solo strikes from Lucão and Catarino. Brazil led 3-1 before the European side drew level with a pair of goals from Ihar Bryshtel, but it was Rodrigo who netted the winner with two minutes to spare.
Brazil are now the seven-time winners of the competition, winning over half of the 13 tournaments held to date.
It was somewhat of a procession for the reigning champions as they cantered through the group stage with wins over El Salvador (3-1), Italy (2-1) and Oman (11-1) before demolishing Spain (6-0) in the quarter-finals.
A 4-2 win over Portugal in the last four set up Brazil’s chance at a seventh World Cup crown. They are on a run of twelve unbeaten matches, having last lost a match at the Beach Soccer World Cup in 2021 against Senegal.
“The entire team deserves credit for their commitment, dedication and humility in respecting all their opponents. Today, Brazil has won another star and everyone deserves congratulations,” said player Mauricinho.
“This title is not just for the players, it is for all the Brazilian people who are there supporting us. Many people think that we only come for the World Cup, but we don’t. We work all year long, we are professionals, and we always try to give our best on the field (…) Brazil, seven-time champion!”
Portugal claimed the bronze medal with a 3-2 victory against African champions Senegal in the third-place playoff. Seychelles, the host for the tournament, exited in the group stage, failing to win a single match.
