Alonso Eyes Real Madrid Players, Including A Super Eagles Talent

A Super Eagles striker could line up for La Liga giants Real Madrid next season if reports from the Spain is anything to go by.

Xabi Alonso is drawing up an ambitious transfer wishlist ahead of a potential return to Real Madrid — and one name high on his list is Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface.

The Bayer Leverkusen boss is widely tipped to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu next season, with the Italian believed to be taking charge of the Brazilian national team after the 2024/25 campaign. And if appointed, Alonso wants to reinforce Real Madrid’s forward line with a powerful No.9.

According to Telemadrid via Fichajes, Alonso has recommended two strikers from his current Leverkusen squad — 24-year-old Boniface and 29-year-old Czech international Patrik Schick — as strong options to lead Madrid’s attack. Another target is Sporting CP’s prolific Swede Viktor Gyökeres, though his €75m release clause presents a significant financial hurdle.

Boniface, who scored 11 goals across all competitions this season despite injury setbacks, continues to attract growing interest.

Juventus have emerged as potential rivals for his signature, with Italian outlet Tuttosport reporting that the Nigerian has become a key alternative to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen — currently on loan at Galatasaray — due to Osimhen’s high valuation.

Boniface’s future was nearly resolved in January when Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr attempted to secure his services in a €60m deal. The transfer would have seen the striker earn €15m per season, but it collapsed at the final stages.

In his debut season at the club, Boniface played a key role as Bayer Leverkusen won the German league and cup double for the first time in history.

The Nigerian was named the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Season and included in the official Team of the Year.

This season did not particularly go as planned for Boniface and Bayer Leverkusen, with the club finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
