Ipswich Town sign goalkeeper Alex Palmer from West Brom for £5m

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Alex Palmer for a reported fee of up to £5 million.

The 28-year-old underwent a medical at Portman Road before the transfer deadline and will leave The Hawthorns after coming through West Brom’s academy.

Palmer, who has made 104 appearances for West Brom, is excited for the new challenge at Ipswich. “Ipswich is a club that’s going places, and everything I’ve heard about the manager [Kieran McKenna] has been nothing but positive,” Palmer said.

The addition of Palmer provides Ipswich with another goalkeeping option, with Christian Walton sidelined by a groin injury. Ipswich are currently 19th in the Premier League, three points from safety.

Ipswich also completed the signing of 18-year-old Chelsea left-back Somto Boniface, who has represented England at under-18s level
