‘Worst Captain We’ve Ever Had’ – Spurs Fans Slam Son Heung-min After North London Derby Defeat

Angry Tottenham fans have branded Son Heung-min the “worst captain we’ve ever had” after his reaction to the north London derby defeat.

Spurs headed into their latest meeting with arch-rivals Arsenal hoping for a performance and result that would kick-start their 2024-25 campaign. They ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline, with Brazilian defender Gabriel netting the only game of the game for the Gunners.

Tottenham were competitive throughout, without really threatening, and skipper Son told Sky Sports afterwards: “We dominated the game, the football was there, we just conceded from a set-piece again. We did it last season and it is really frustrating. I am sure the fans are also very disappointed. We have to improve, 100%, it’s a tough moment and we have to stick together. We are getting into the final third but the players have to take the responsibility to score. It is the hardest part of football, making the right decision and being clinical. We will bounce back strong, there is a long way to go.”

Those comments have drawn an angry response from some Tottenham supporters, who believe that South Korea international Son is failing to provide the required level of leadership. @SamuraiTHFC branded Son a “disgrace of a captain” while @james_h_g said: “Dominating isn’t winning you moron. Surely he has to be the worst captain we’ve ever had the misfortune to have. He’s miles off it right now & has been for months.” @perseusperseid went on to say: “There’s no leadership on the pitch, give the captaincy to somebody who’s got a voice and authority, and can motivate people, Son ain’t no captain.”

@DeadStarLegacy responded to Son’s claims by saying: “Dominated the game? You didn’t even have 1 XG against Arsenal’s B team.” Those sentiments were echoed by @JohnnyBowe1, who said: “You dominated nothing. All huff and puff and nothing to show for it again. Defence wise we are a shambles, particularly on crosses. Vicario is dodgy on the crosses and teams know this. No killer striker up front.”

Spurs have picked up just four points from as many games this season, leaving them 13th in the Premier League table. Questions are being asked of head coach Ange Postecoglou, who will be demanding a positive response from his players in a Carabao Cup trip to Coventry and top-flight home date with Brentford.
