Brazil legend, Romario announces shock return to football at 58

Brazil football legend, Romario, has announced that he is coming out of retirement at 58, to play for Brazilian side America Football Club in Rio de Janeiro.

This comes 15 years after he quit playing the sport.

During his playing career, Romario won the World Cup in 1994 and featured for Dutch side PSV and LaLiga giants Barcelona.

Romario has now registered himself as a player for America Football Club, where he serves as president and also where his son, Romarinho, plays his football.

In an Instagram post, he claimed that playing with his son and for his “favourite” team is his main motivation.

The Brazilian legend will be paid a “minimum wage” at the club, but will return it to America as a donation, according to Marca.
