EPL: Wenger criticises Jesus

Former Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger has singled out Gabriel Jesus for criticism.

Wenger said the Brazilian international needs to become more consistent before he can be considered a top player.

Jesus completed a move from Manchester City to Arsenal in 2022.

The 26-year-old was keen to fill the void left by the departure of strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette that summer.

However, he only managed just 11 league goals in all competitions across his debut campaign for the Gunners. This season, Jesus has netted just four times in the Premier League and has also missed some matches due to injury.

Sitting down with his former player Freddie Ljungberg for Viaplay Sports, Wenger said of Arsenal and Jesus: “They have no Thierry Henry at the moment because I think Gabriel Jesus is injured a lot.

“There are more goals in him than what you see at the moment. What the top, top player doesn’t tolerate is [being] in and out.

“The guys who make history are the guys who are consistently there. Ronaldo and Messi, they play for 15 years, 50 to 60 games per year.”
