Rangers International FC is set to make history as plans to add the General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, to the first team squad of the top Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side has been concluded.
The plan which has been endorsed by coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, is expected to begin on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in their Week 23 away game to Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna.
Ezeaku, an accomplished football administrator and former goalkeeper/player will have a taste of action in the top echelon of the NPFL for the first time.
Before his emergence, Edo state Deputy Governor, Comrade Phillip Shaibu, had made headlines few seasons ago when he was drafted into Bendel Insurance first team squad and got the opportunity to play in some of the matches in the league.
Interestingly, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Flying Antelopes will become the first to add his administrative responsibilities to playing in the league, as well as join the class of few eminent personalities (if there’s any) that had featured for their clubsides as General Managers.
Recently, Ezeaku got the support of Rangers coaching crew led by Ilechukwu to join the team when his performance in a match saw him score a wonderful television-made goal through a header.
The exploits of the Nigerian lawyer on and off the pitch has been described by Nigerians and supporters of the Coal City side as excellent.
Two years ago, Ezeaku bagged a UEFA certificate in football management, and was also honoured after being appointed into a group of independent integrity experts and pro bono counsel, the first of its kind that was created by World’s football governing body, FIFA.
Since taking over as the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the former Nigerian champions last year, the Enugu side has experienced a massive turn around in administration, financial prudence, infrastructural development and confidence building among the players, coaches and staffs.
The footballing world eagerly awaits the young administrator to showcase his talent on the pitch and help in propelling Rangers drive to make meaningful impact in the league this season.
