Ahead of the qualifying games scheduled to be held in Antwerp, Belgium, Coach of Nigeria’s Women Senior team, Rena Wakama has invited 15 players to training camp in preparation for the games that has pitched D’Tigress, against top nations like USA, Senegal and Belgium.
Reacting to the worries of fans of the team over the late invitation of players to training camp, General Manager of the Nigeria basketball national teams, Musa Adamu stated that the team would be ready to compete strongly for the Olympic ticket.
“We acknowledge that other teams have released their teams rosters earlier, however, unlike football, FIBA only makes it mandatory for clubs to release players a week before the commencement of a tournament.
” The coach knows her team and have been in contact with the players. So, the girls would be ready for all oppositions when the game starts,” Adamu stated.
For the Olympic qualification games starting February 8-11, Wakama, who led the team to a record-equalling Afrobasket title in Rwanda in 2023, listed Amukamara Onyeka, Sarah Chika Ogoke, Abiola Alimat Olatoyosi, Okoro Ifunnaya and Taiwo Oluwatomi Yemisi.
Others include, Donanu Regina, Elizabeth Balogun, Okonkwo Amy Nnenna, Adeyeye Adebola, Enabosi Nicole Ehizele, Musa Murjanatu, Akarawe Nkem Uwa, Kunayi- Akpanah Pallas Daemi, Ebo Lauren and Ejiofor Blessing.
