Chess Beyond Borders: Lagos Parades Potential National Champions – Aiyepeku

The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Sola Aiyepeku said the commission would continue to invest in the growth of Chess board Game as the state parades pool of potential champions.

Aiyepeku, who made the statement at the event organised by Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company tagged “Chess Beyond Borders ” held at the Bon Voyage Hotel, Victoria Island, noted that the initiative promotes critical thinking, discipline, patience and planning amongst others.

He said the message is not only for the children to exercise patience and think deeply before taking actions, he also encouraged those present to follow suit.

“All of you have the potential to be national champion and grandmaster and l have seen the way you played. I’ve seen many of us appreciate the strategies put together to win the game. We can’t go through life by just thinking challenges as they come you must have a big picture of where you are heading to”.

He expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr.Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his massive investment in the development of sports, saying the result is endless.

He further pointed out that sports Commission has restructured school sports along side the American Flag football and a lot are coming onboard next year which will also present a career path for the up and coming talents.

He also thanked the organisers of the Chess Beyond the Borders for their interest in promoting critical thinking and bringing Game that relate with the children.

The “Chess Beyond Borders” aims to promote the game of chess as a unifying force that transcends geographical boundaries, fostering strategic thinking and cultural exchange.
