Four-year ban: Pogba told to retire from football

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been advised to retire from football if he receives a four-year ban from the sport.

Pogba tested positive for the banned substance testosterone after Juventus’ Serie A fixture against Udinese on August 20.

The midfielder’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, subsequently told Sky Sports: “We are waiting for the counter analysis and until then we can’t say anything.

“The certain thing is that Paul Pogba never wanted to break the rules.”

Following reports of the positive test, the Italian anti-doping agency, Nado Italia, announced that Pogba was provisionally suspended with immediate effect.

A counter-analysis sample has since been checked which, according to Fabrizio Romano, has returned a positive result.

Romano reported: “Paul Pogba has tested doping positive also to backup sample today.

“Juventus will now decide how to proceed with his contract as Pogba faces risk of long-term ban.”

An anti-doping tribunal will now determine the charge for the midfielder, and he could be banned from football for up to four years.

Meanwhile, according to Sport Witness, Juventus are considering terminating the 2018 World Cup winner’s contract.
