National Youth Games: Team Lagos Make ‘Golden’ Statement In Table Tennis, Swimming

Team Lagos have made their presence felt on the medal table in the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State when the athletes scooped medals in the swimming and table tennis events on Monday.

Lagos State table tennis team won two gold medals in the boys and girls doubles finals played at the Hall 1 of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.

Rabiu Aishat and Musbau Faisat their Delta State opponents 3-0 in the final (11-8,12-10,11-6). The duo stole the show in a sensational performance in front of the table tennis enthusiasts. They maintained their rhythm in an encounter with the host team Delta to rallied a three straight set win.

Adebakin Tobi and Adesanya Sodiq did not bow to Marvelous Joseph and Aremu Sultan from Delta as they walloped their opponents 3-1 (11-6,13-11,7-11,11-6) to take home the gold medal. They stood tall to contain their foes from the host state when they proved to launch a come back in the third set but Lagos boys remained calm to overpowered them.

Monday, day three of events in the ongoing National Youth Games taking place in Asaba, Delta State saw swimming giving Team Lagos no fewer than 3 gold medals and 1 silver.

Demilade Akanbi won two gold medals in 50m backstroke female, while Inioluwa Dayo-Dumoye gave another gold in the 100m breaststroke male event and a gold from Chiamaka Kanu in the female 100m breastroke. Dimehin Funmilayo got a silver medal in the female 100m individual medley.

More medals are in the kttiy for Team Lagos as the swimming events continue on Tuesday, while in most other decided on Monday, the athletes of Team Lagos are progressing in their respective events giving hope that Tuesday will be anotjer medal haul day for the Lagos State team.

Meanwhile, Team Lagos were in second position on the medal table made available to the media Monday night in Asaba. The state has a total of 8 gold, 2 silver ad 3 bronze, while Delta has 9 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze.
