2nd Lekki Scrabble Classic Holds Amidst 63rd Independence Anniversary

All eyes will be on Lagos when one of the top competitions in the Nigerian Scrabble circuit move to the commercial nerve centre for the 2nd installment of the Lekki Scrabble Classic (LSC) which holds from September 30 to October 1st this year.

The tournament which was strategically set to coincide with Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary on October 1, is expected to create the necessary ambience to mark the special national day.

This edition also bears a special tag as it’s coming just few weeks after top players from 10 countries in Africa converged on the city for the memorable Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) President’s Cup and the Dr Winifred Awosika Foundation African Youth Scrabble Championship.

A star prize of 500,000 naira as well as surprise spot gifts have been planned for this 2nd edition.

100 players from different categories will play one another over a total of 18 round of games in the single category two-day event.

Meanwhile, the organisers have declared September 24th as the final deadline date for the submission of entries.

Participants have been advised to complete their registration process on classics.lekkiscrabbleclub.com. before the date.

The tournament has been seen as one of the critical championships which has been a platform for the development of the sport in the country.

It would be recalled that James Eruvje toppled Tega Okiemute in the final round on Table 1 in the 12th round to claim the inaugural title while Gbadebo Olufemi and Khaleel Adedeji were placed second and third in the highly competitive tournament last year.
