Mbappe’s transfer decision could open Neymar to Chelsea

Paris Saint-Germain are open to offers for French superstar Kylian Mbappe after already allowing Lionel Messi to leave the club – whilst Neymar’s future in Paris is also uncertain

Kylian Mbappe looks set to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the next 12 months after informing the French club that he will not be extending his current contract. PSG are actively looking to sell the 24-year-old after leaving him out of their pre-season squad following his contract decision.

Lionel Messi has already left the Parisians this summer after joining Inter Miami. Luis Enrique has been appointed manager at the Parc des Princes Stadium and is overseeing a huge squad overhaul which may see Mbappe and Neymar follow Messi out of the club.

Arsenal, Chelsea and even Tottenham have been linked with a move for Mbappe this summer as PSG brace themselves for a flurry of bids – with the French outfit even considering loaning the France international out for the 2023/24 campaign. Mbappe featured 34 times for the Parisians in Ligue 1 last term, directly contributing towards 35 goals.

Al-Hilal have had a world record £259million bid for Mbappe accepted by PSG – but it is unclear if the player would be open to joining the Saudi Arabian side. Chelsea are now deemed to be out of the race to sign the French superstar, but Mbappe’s decision could now trigger the Blues to turn their attention to securing a deal for Neymar instead.

The Brazilian winger – who has two years left on his deal in Paris plus the option of a third – has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge in the past with Todd Boehly said to have held talks with PSG representatives during the World Cup. The 31-year-old recently revealed his intention to remain at Parc des Princes Stadium ahead of the upcoming campaign: “I hope to play this season at PSG, I have a contract with Paris,” he said in an interview with Brazilian YouTube channel Que Papinho.

“So far, no one has told me anything [about leaving],” he added. Given his contract situation, age and injury record – this summer may represent the best chance for PSG to recoup a large fee for the Brazilian after making him the most expensive transfer in football history – after activating his £191million release clause to sign him from Barcelona in 2017.
